The ongoing flag handover to the wards councillorship aspirants for the June 16th local government election  in Rivers State.The former governor of Rivers State and PDP leader in Ikwerre local government area, Sir Celestine Omehia in his speech at the flag hand over event at Omagwa said that all of the councillorship  candidates from different wards of ikwerre local government area and the chairmanship candidate Hon. Engr. Samuel Nwanosike are the people's best choice and that there is no regret for the Ikwerre people choosing them to represent them at the local government area. He also used the medium to urge the people of Ikwerre not to relent but work hard in ensuring that they give the candidates 90% votes in the June 16th local government election  as well as the general election in 2019.
Meanwhile, Bro. Felix Obuah, the State PDP chairman, who represented the state governor, his excellency,  Governor E.N Wike, who was unavoidably absent because of series of engagement in marking his three years in office, commended the leadership of PDP in Ikwerre local government and the good people of Ikwerre LGA for the mammoth turnout to witness the hand-over of flag in their LGA. He also commended the candidates who emerged as councillors from from the thirteen wards, he stated that " you are not the best, but amongst thousands,  your people have selected you as their candidate to be elected as councillors and represent them", he asked them to serve without fear or favor, that it's only God that gives power, also Governor E. N Wike as a democrat, have avail this platform for the people to choose and elect their choice to represent them.
On his part, Hon. Engr. Samuel Nwanosike, the chairmanship candidate of Ikwerre local government area, used the medium to appreciate God for a fair weather and also the people of Ikwerre local government and the PDP leadership in the LGA for their support.
Hon. Engr. Nwanosike also condemned the manner with which the APC state chairman Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, via media bragged to be evil and swore to remove Governor E. N Wike from brick house come 2019. Hon. Nwanosike said the good people of Rivers State are warriors and therefore can not be intimidated, he vowed that the people of Rivers State are out to defend democracy and support Governor Wike, because he has demonstrated good leadership, and that the people of Rivers State will give their  support to whosoever governor Wike support. Hon. Nwanosike said that, the minister former transport RT. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi have been banished politically from Ikwerre land by the people of Ikwerre.
Also, about 400 APC members defected to PDP
