The catholic community in Rivers State today joined their counterparts in the country in a solidarity peaceful protest to condemn two priest and 17 parishioners of same faith in Markudi, Benue state.

In his solidarity speech, the bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Reverend Camelius Etekodo condemned the wanton killing and destruction of lives and properties by these " terrorists".
According to the bishop, " it is said that live is to be celebrated, life is to be exchanged but not ended, what we do when we are alive will take us to God or away from God, if we do the right thing at the right time, God will always protect us.
Also, the bishop condemned the state of security in the country, he said it is not effective. He said it is the obligation of the government of a country to protect lives and properties, but most times citizens are left defenseless. He said the catholic community in Rivers State are praying in solidarity for those who are moaning their dear ones and also encouraging the government to do more in order to help the citizens who are living in fear and in tears to live a life worthy of their call. He said life is a gift from God, it is sacred, precious, therefore nobody has any reason to destroy life, be you a kidnapper, occultist, politician etc, because God is the author of life.

On his part, the director of communication Port Harcourt dioceses, Father Batholomew Uzuoma, said irrespective of the corruption in the country, that they are still hopeful and expecting divine intervention.
He used the medium to call on security agencies in the country to beef-up their acts in protecting and preserving lives in the country.
